LHS shut out at regionals

PITTSBURG — The Louisburg wrestling team ventured to the Pittsburg regional wrestling tournament Friday and Saturday, hoping to qualify at least one wrestler for the state tournament.

Instead, the Wildcats left Pittsburg with an empty feeling in their stomachs as they were shut out of the state tournament for the first time since 2007.

Wrestlers won’t be down for long

The Louisburg wrestling team left Pittsburg with an empty feeling Saturday – a feeling the program hasn’t experienced often.

For only the fourth time since 1970, the Wildcats left the regional tournament with no state qualifiers. It was rough on coach Bobby Bovaird and his varsity wrestlers.

Wildcats fifth at League

OTTAWA — Youth and inexperience didn’t seem to bother the Louisburg wrestling team much Saturday at the Frontier League Tournament.

The Wildcats finished the dual tournament with a 2-4 record and finished fifth, but it was the individual results that stood out the most.

Knox sixth at Silver Lake

SILVER LAKE — Chalk it up as another learning experience for a young Louisburg wrestling team.

The Wildcats, with a roster of mainly freshmen and sophomores, ventured to its second tough tournament in a row Saturday — the Silver Lake Invitational.

Lemke finishes seventh

BALDWIN CITY — As Louisburg competed in the 12th annual Baldwin Invitational Wrestling Tournament, coach Bobby Bovaird couldn’t help but have flashbacks to the first year of the tournament.

Bovaird served as an assistant under current Baldwin coach Kit Harris when the school first put the tournament together. It has since become one of the toughest tournaments in the area.

JV, freshmen wrestlers have strong week

Bobby Bovaird had his whole weekend planned.

Two days were supposed to be spent at the Husky Invitational at Blue Valley Northwest High School, and he was geared up to take his varsity team to a difficult tournament.

Confidence grows for LHS wrestlers

TOPEKA — It may not have been the toughest tournament the Louisburg wrestling team has been in, but it was definitely a confidence builder.

The Wildcats had their highest team finish of the season Saturday at the Topeka High Invitational. Louisburg finished fourth in the 11-team tournament with 79 points.

Panthers win big with pins

LOUISBURG — The Louisburg and Paola wrestling teams got a break from the normal tournament wrestling grind as the Panthers traveled to Louisburg on Tuesday for dual action.

It has been years since the Wildcats and Panthers faced each other in a weekday dual, and the athletic directors from both schools wanted to put it on the schedule as a way to get extra matches.

Home tourney kind to Wildcats

LOUISBURG — The Louisburg Wildcat Classic brought several new wrestling teams to town Saturday, and with that, came a lot of competition.The Wildcats, being fairly inexperienced themselves, finished seventh out of 11 teams with 99 points, but that didn’t mean some individual wrestlers didn’t experience some success on their own.

Wildcats host 10 teams Saturday

Practice time has been at a premium for the Louisburg wrestling team the past week.

With the holiday season in full swing and snowy weather around the new year, it has been hard for the Wildcats to get on the mat as a team.
